On Mother’s Day, we salute the ones who did it their way.
Daddy, Reverend Raymond Jones, took this picture on a Sunday morning in 1953 in a little town in Arkansas
That’s Mother, the pastor’s wife. That’s me holding the baby and there’s my brother, who’d just lost another battle about wearing a suit to Sunday School.
This next picture is also Mother, “Sister Fern” Jones, the songwriter/singer in her natural habitat.
Click the link below to hear her version of “Precious Lord.” I like the musical conversations between Mother and guitar virtuoso, Hank Garland, during Nashville recording sessions in the late ’50s.

Everyone who loves these photos and your writing needs to buy a copy of your wonderful memoir, The Glory Road. https://www.amazon.com/Glory-Road-Gospel-Gypsy-Life/dp/0817320911 And everyone who reads it needs to leave a wonderful review! That’s how books make money for wonderful, hard working authors!
Thank you! Sweet words on Mother’s Day. I’ll take them.
