One week ago today it was 115 degrees outside. Now it is 60 and raining hard.
I love weather extremes. I especially love Fall. A week ago I sweated outside over barbecued ribs. Today I’m making chili on the stove.
Today is my youngest son’s birthday. He’s a good man. I love him. Wish he’d find his way.
I went camping over the weekend with my closest friends.
My radio buddies and I made our annual trek to Big Sur. Had chili and beer and a million laughs. It will sustain me for months. I love those guys.
When I got home I found out I was being fired from my fourth job in ten years. All my former employers praise my performance and my character. Go figure.
Glad I got the camping trip in first.
My wife and my kids and their kids adore me.
The dogs get very excited when they see me each morning and evening. They follow me from room to room.
I need to go stir the chili and head out to one of my last days on this particular job.
I do love cold, rainy days. I’m a happy man.
I completely understand how you can be a happy man while in the midst of so much going on. Rain and autumn weather and chili on the stove. Blessings, all. And what was that other thing you mentioned – oh yeah, people and dogs love you. You’ve got it made.
And you don’t have to add: “These are not good people. They will undercut you at every turn.”

Sorry to hear about the job, Dave. Prayerfully bigger and better is just around the corner! Definately adding that to my prayers. You are loved, that is for sure. And God has blessed you with a wonderful family and numerous friends that adore you. Really, when you come right down to what matters in this life, it has nothing to do with where we work or what we do for a living. It is all about the love and support of family and friends. And in that area, you are a very rich man!
Wow, Dave. I’m so sorry to hear that. Praying for you!
Dave:
Anytime we get fired it hurts. How about this one. Almost 30 years ago in Houston (KTRH news radio) I got whacked the day after my daughter’s birth. I’d heard rumblings, asked management a couple of weeks before the birth regarding the rumors, their response, “there’s no truth.” It happened, I bounced back, and I chalk it up to one of life’s experiences. “Pain is the touchstone to (spiritual) progress.” You’ll recover, we all do. Or as they say, “when one door closes, it means another is about to open.” Love you man.

I think a song by Tom T Hall would be appropriate for you at this time of your life—Old Dogs Children and Watermelon Wine. Hope to hear you somewhere on the radio dial in the not too distant future.
Good one Dave Boothby. One of my favorite songs and yes it fits well. David and I are very happy. We have good friends, family and good health we are very blessed. They can have the house, the crap inside of it but they can’t take what really matters to us away. Just another rainy day, and guess what David and I love rainy days so bring it!
Love you guys, and so sorry you are going through hard times. It is always harder when you are planning for your “golden years” and someone wants to tarnish them. Hang on to each other and all the love around you. You guys are pure gold!! Prayers are sent, Jerry and Cheryl
Thoughts of you always warm my heart and bring a smile to my face. I love rain, too ! We will all be waiting to see what God has in store for you next. Yours has been an interesting trip down life’s roads and over the airwaves. Love, Auntie
Maybe you are just not in demand anymore? This can happen when we get old. Don’t you have your book? I know nothing about you Dave, aside from your terrible sense of humor. It was funny watching David Hall tip over like Humpty Dumpty at KFI, and seeing Stella try to cushion his fall. She put her own life at risk! We laughed about it. Thanks for your snobby reply btw.
Sorry to learn you have lost yet another job. What will you do?
