In this abbreviated exchange\u00a0of emails, one generation of multi-taskers laments and the next generation has the last word.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I emailed my friend, Sueann and my daughter, Cathleen, to brag about a fleeting\u00a0spurt of energy.\u00a0 Most of our group emails have to do with handicapping Dancing With The Stars or So You Think You Can Dance, and since neither show is on right now (sigh) we’re back to discussing real life.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sueann and I go way back to the days when each of us raised kids and ran a company and volunteered many hours and were sometimes married and sometimes not.\u00a0 We were\u00a0multi-tasking dynamos. Cath belongs to a more Zen school of thought.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Here’s my email to\u00a0Sueann and Cath:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I am pleased to announce\u00a0that I may be getting my multi-tasking\u00a0mojo back.\u00a0 Proof positive is\u00a0the fact that I’m making oatmeal\/raisin\/walnut cookies at this moment, while scanning the newspaper, while jumping up to add paragraphs to\u00a0a short story in progress, while\u00a0replying to emails.\u00a0 Oh yes I am.\u00a0\u00a0I had almost forgotten\u00a0how to multi-task,\u00a0but it’s working for me today.\u00a0 I will probably give myself a headache,\u00a0so I’m enjoying it while it lasts.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sueann:\u00a0 I am so proud of you.\u00a0 I lost my multi-tasking mojo\u00a0a few months ago and\u00a0I’m not concerned\u00a0about where it went.\u00a0 I’ve decided that it just could be overrated.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mine:\u00a0 Oh puh-leeze.\u00a0 Today is a freak\u00a0occurrence.\u00a0 I didn’t\u00a0seek it out.\u00a0 It just snuck up on me.\u00a0 I agree with you.\u00a0 It’s overrated.\u00a0 I look back at us in the 80’s and wonder, what were we thinking?<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sueann:\u00a0 Okay then, a sneak attack\u00a0is acceptable.\u00a0 Don’t want you traveling to the dark side. I’m actually eating almonds as I type this.\u00a0 Does that count?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Cath:\u00a0 Can’t talk.\u00a0 Skiing.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
