Are these flowers from an artist momentarily adrift in a garden of self expression?<\/p>\n<p>I own several other pieces that look like they could have been done by a person who went home early from the community center art class.\u00a0 I say this with love.\u00a0 I admire the gumption it takes to make a picture of anything, any time.<\/p>\n<p>I rescue abandoned canvasses and wonder, were they created with love and given away, then secretly discarded by the recipient? The only two things we know is that someone made these and someone didn&#8217;t want them.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve seen stories on TV about people who collect old paint-by-numbers canvases and many narrow their search to a particular subject &#8211; horses or trees or dogs or boats or barns.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not picky about subject matter, though I do seem to have several examples of flowers painted with varying degrees of verisimilitude.\u00a0 (I&#8217;ve been hoping to use that word all week, ever since I convinced the Grand it&#8217;s really a word.)<\/p>\n<p>My knowledge of odd collections comes from &#8220;CBS Sunday Morning&#8221; which often takes us to meet people who own many examples of an unusual kind of thing.\u00a0 If I had the space, I&#8217;d keep going.\u00a0 Mine are now sprinkled around the house, in the kitchen, the office, and these two new pieces with the black backgrounds are looking great in a bathroom.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theagingofaquarius.com\/ag_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FUNKY-ART-SELF-PORTRAIT.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5679 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theagingofaquarius.com\/ag_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FUNKY-ART-SELF-PORTRAIT.jpg?resize=311%2C401&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"311\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theagingofaquarius.com\/ag_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FUNKY-ART-SELF-PORTRAIT.jpg?w=546&amp;ssl=1 546w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theagingofaquarius.com\/ag_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FUNKY-ART-SELF-PORTRAIT.jpg?resize=233%2C300&amp;ssl=1 233w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 311px) 85vw, 311px\" \/><\/a><em><strong>This one&#8217;s signed, dated and titled &#8220;Self Portrait.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>As I paid my $4.99 and $1.5o at the counter, the checker, a beautiful young woman dressed head to toe in vintage chic, smiled as she rang them up.\u00a0 She said, &#8220;I love it when they&#8217;re signed.&#8221;\u00a0 Me too.\u00a0 Then she told me she plans to start painting.\u00a0 I expressed what I hope was the proper appreciation.\u00a0 But there&#8217;s more, she said.\u00a0 She has a specific plan for her art.\u00a0 She&#8217;s going to sign them all and give them names and then donate them.\u00a0 They won&#8217;t go to anyone she knows.\u00a0 They won&#8217;t hang on her wall at home.\u00a0 They&#8217;re going straight to the thrift store where she works, eliminating a middle person who may not have fully appreciated them anyway.\u00a0 I get it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theagingofaquarius.com\/ag_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FUNKY-ART-BICYCLE.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5676 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theagingofaquarius.com\/ag_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FUNKY-ART-BICYCLE.jpg?resize=352%2C274&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"352\" height=\"274\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theagingofaquarius.com\/ag_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FUNKY-ART-BICYCLE.jpg?w=602&amp;ssl=1 602w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theagingofaquarius.com\/ag_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FUNKY-ART-BICYCLE.jpg?resize=300%2C233&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 352px) 85vw, 352px\" \/><\/a><em><strong>How could anyone give away a bicycle with golden wheels?<br \/>\nMy photo doesn&#8217;t do it justice.\u00a0 Those wheels are shiny.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>If my new vintage-loving acquaintance&#8217;s plan to paint and donate comes to fruition, every time I pick up a castoff canvas I&#8217;ll get to wonder if its one of hers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>******<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/anita.garner.9\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5506\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theagingofaquarius.com\/ag_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/facebook.jpeg?resize=65%2C65&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"65\" height=\"65\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Anita Garner I go to the thrift shop to donate but can&#8217;t leave until I check the bin full of castoff art.\u00a0 Is this a paint-by-numbers piece?\u00a0 Is it from a student?\u00a0 Or from a professional painter whose early work was given up too soon?
