I gave away my favorite pants\u00a0by accident last week.\u00a0 It was bound to happen.\u00a0 When I’m cleaning the closet in a self-righteous Spring-induced charitable\u00a0mood, things move fast.<\/p>\n
I\u00a0piled clothes on the bed in categories:\u00a0\u00a0Things I don’t wear, new things I wish I’d never bought, (A hanging price tag is a reproach) and the biggest\u00a0bunch of all, things that don’t fit anymore.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
While bundling all of this together\u00a0to donate to the\u00a0Family Service Thrift Store, I spotted a blouse that was a maybe – a\u00a0great color – it might still work.\u00a0 Better try it on before giving up on it.\u00a0\u00a0I grabbed my favorite sleek black pants from the closet and put on the blouse.\u00a0 Nope,\u00a0still not a fit.<\/p>\n
So, two giant armloads of clothes into the back seat and two giant armloads of clothes dropped off, and I went about my other errands.<\/p>\n
Next day I went to the closet for my favorite\u00a0pants and they weren’t there. You can see where this is headed.\u00a0 Back to the thrift store.\u00a0 Since they were nowhere in the house, that’s where they were likely to be.\u00a0\u00a0I had delivered my\u00a0custom tailored pants for resale and not on purpose.\u00a0 Who does something that dumb?<\/p>\n
A lot of people do, judging from\u00a0the reaction\u00a0of the volunteers\u00a0at the thrift shop.\u00a0 I’m happy to buy them back, I said. They were sorry, but they had already tagged last week’s merchandise, which was now hanging\u00a0in the store.\u00a0\u00a0Just\u00a0go out there and find them.<\/p>\n
There was half a hope my pants would still be in the store.\u00a0 I’m a tough fit – very long legs.\u00a0 Those pants wouldn’t interest just anybody.\u00a0I looked.\u00a0 I’d know my pants anywhere, and they weren’t on the racks.\u00a0\u00a0 Already sold.\u00a0 I started to\u00a0grieve immediately.\u00a0 A woman and her favorite black pants – that’s a serious relationship.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
