\"\"<\/a>Here\u2019s one answer, short and sweet and to the point.\u00a0 This comes from Seth Godin.\u00a0 I cozied right up to it. It’s a topic my blogging buddy, Dave Williams,<\/a> and I discuss often in one form or another.<\/p>\n

Seth thinks a lot of smart thoughts.\u00a0 Writes about them.\u00a0 Posts some of them.<\/p>\n

Here’s Seth.<\/p>\n

At some point, grown ups get tired of the feeling that accompanies growth and learning.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

We start calling that feeling, \u201cincompetence.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

We\u2019re not good at the new software, we resist a brainstorming session for a new way to solve a problem, we never did bother to learn to juggle\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Not because we don\u2019t want the outcomes, but because the journey promises to be difficult. Difficult in the sense that we\u2019ll feel incompetent.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Which accompanies all growth.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

First we realize something can be done.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Then we realize we can\u2019t do it.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

And finally, we get better at it.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s the second step that messes with us.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

If you care enough to make a difference, if you care enough to get better\u2013you should care enough to experience incompetence again.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
