Anticipation is my favorite season.

By Anita GarnerChristmas Eve is the end of one of my favorite seasons.  It’s not the holidays I’ll miss, it’s the looking-forward-to part.

People have asked many times through the years, don’t you think it’s too early to start talking about that trip, house, project, job, visit, etc.?  No.  It’s never too early.  The best part about anticipation is that I can begin whenever I please.

Here’s why I love it so much.  Anticipation is the only part of an experience I can control, so when I think of an upcoming event, it’s the leading-up-to I concentrate on.

Here I sit surrounded by gift-wrapped packages and lights and provisions for a bountiful dinner tomorrow, and my thought is, I only have one more night before the Season of Anticipation ends. So, yeah, a little bit sad, but I’ll snap out of it. There’s a whole year full of new anticipations waiting.

  1. I could not agree more. And I hate to admit it but I feel kind of sorry (and annoyed) when people whine about how it’s too early for Christmas ads, colored lights and Christmas music. Life is what you make of it. That’s a big part of the reason for the season.

Merry Christmas Eve, my old friend!?

  2. Oh my dear you nailed it – Merry Christmas EVE! I feel as strongly about my right to begin whenever I wish as others do to complain about it.

  3. You two silly ol’ saps. I love Christmas morning and the sense of family and joy in the room. No diets, or rules, just good ol’ fashioned love. The joy on their faces when they open that gift you nailed without having to ask. The cocktails for breakfast, the Christmas music vs. football argument. The one guy (my husband) who wants it over as quickly as possible while I want to draw it out all day. Then the memories of those sitting in that empty chair and sharing the delight of past Christmases. Oh and the giant remote control construction facility that takes up the entire room! Oh fun! Wish we could ALL be together for this day to come!

  4. A beautiful picture and I would add one more thing – in the Anticipation Season you can live that over and over again in your mind! Hugs.
